The Egyptian Empire existed from 3000 BC to the Ptolemaic Dynasty. Egypt's history is one of many rulers and diverse periods, of fascinating civilization and culture, which met its final end when it was defeated by the Roman Empire.
When you study the chart, you'll probably notice that some of the dates overlap in certain instances. Why? During those times, pharaohs may have ruled simultaneously in different parts of Egypt. In other instances, we can't be quite sure of the dates. It shows the difficulty researchers face in committing to exact figures.
Quick fact: Dating Ancient Egypt's Dynasties is still ongoing. It's a difficult task simply because it all took place so long ago. The timeline table is based on archaeologists' conventional estimates. They are subject to change as new information is unearthed.
